VR Exploration Prototype
Working with a small team of 2 Artists, 1 Designer and 1 Audio Technician we created a prototype for a VR game - working title: Tartarus. Having taken an interest in environment and shader creation in Unreal 3.5, it was now my challenge to do the same from scratch, this time with the awesome power of Unreal 4 at my disposal. Working with Roger Li made this a particular pleasure, since he was able to take care of all of the inorganic models, leaving the environment pipelines, flora and fauna, and post processing to me. Our systems were exceptionally robust, allowing usto modify absolutely every artist detail on the fly. Alas, time was not on our side this time around, and we've had to put this project on the shelf, for the time being at least.
Here you can see a variety of screens from the game, including captures of some of the creatures that inhabit the prototype. Terrains were generated using World Machine, and my own custom shader ensured that these looked their very best. We can also see my custom mesh-paint shader in action on the ship, utilising vertex painting to add seamless corrosion across the tiled textures of the boat. This allows giant objects such as the cargo ship to maintain high fidelity even at close range.
